We brought urban design and public engagement expertise to a series of transit access and mobility studies for Seattle’s Department of Transportation (SDOT), which investigated multimodal access and improvement needs in several traditionally underserved neighborhoods. We collaborated with SDOT staff and residents and business owners in the Georgetown, Beacon Hill, and Judkins Park communities to identify current multimodal access and mobility challenges, recognize long-standing transportation equity issues, and prioritize future improvements.
We also worked on a similar mobility study that was spearheaded by community members in Seattle’s University District neighborhood, where the arrival of light rail offered an opportunity to review and rethink multimodal circulation through this unique urban center.
Outcomes
- Successful community and stakeholder events that elevated voices from BIPOC communities, non-English language speakers, people with limited mobility and/or hearing and vision impairments.
- PSRC recognized the Judkins Park Station Access Study with a Vision 2040 Award.
- In Beacon Hill, bike and pedestrian improvements around the Jose Rizal Bridge that were included in the mobility study were implemented in 2021.
